Compliance

High Voltage Cable Compartment

A separate tamper proof compartment provides ample space for the high voltage terminations and allows for a loop feed to other units.

Low Voltage Compartment

A separate tamper proof compartment provides ample space for low voltage cable connections, cell heaters, grounding resistor (for 3 phase, 3 wire installations), and ground bus pads.

Control Compartment

A separate compartment encloses the gauges, sampling valve, tap changer, and fan controls without entering into the live power areas.

The unit padmount is outdoor weatherproof and is suitable in every aspect for installation without the use of fencing. The tamperproof assembly of transformer and switchgear is an integral assembly containing all necessary equipment as described below. The unit padmount substation has provision for high and low voltage cables to enter from below. Optional front or rear exit for busduct, flexibus, or cable and tray are possible.

Transformer

The padmount transformer is provided with the ratings as shown above. The transformer is oil filled. ONAN, 65° rise, built to CSA C227-2 and complete with ALL accessories as further specified.

Switchgear

The metal enclosed switchgear is constructed of 11 gauge flat rolled steel and welded construction. All doors have padlock provisions and shrouded penta head bolts to provide tamper proof access. Separate doors provide access to the high voltage termination compartment, high voltage switch and fuse compartment, low voltage compartment, and a safely positioned area for gauges, tap changer, and fan controls.

The fuse compartment door is interlocked with the high voltage switch to prevent access to live fuses. For spare fuse refills, a holder is provided on the inside of the compartment door. This compartment is also provided with an anti-condensation heater, and the underside of the roof is treated with an anti condensation compound. Metal work is prepared for painting by degreasing and cleaning. A process of electrostatically applied primer and final finish coats of ASA 70 light grey is utilized to provide an epoxy baked finish with an even thickness of two mils.

The bus work is high conductivity aluminum (copper optional), mounted on non tracking skirted CYPOXY standoff insulators to provide the short circuit and impulse withstand levels required. A copper ground bus of withstand rating equal to that of the assembly is provided with adequate lugs for substation grounding.

The switchgear will contain components that have been factory tested as a complete unit and will include:

  • 1- S&C 600 AMP, 3 pole load interrupter switch.
  • 3- S&C 400 AMP, SMU-40 power fuses.
  • 6- fuse refills sized to protect the transformer, 3 to be installed and 3 to be used as spares.
  • 3- MOV intermediate class polymer lightning arresters.
  • Provision for incoming cable terminations, two hole NEMA lugs to be provided.
  • All necessary bus, supports, hardware, and barriers.
